Coaches and Directors

Joel has just about done everything around the pool for almost 25 years. Joel comes from Lansing, MI where he was a four-year varsity swimmer for Everett High School under legendary coach John Bullock. He also was captain his senior year. Lauritzen was a four-year varsity award winner in cross country and one of if not the only three-year captains in the school's history. After high school, Joel went to college originally for sports writing. Joel specifically covered swimming for multiple newspapers and still freelances in this area. During this time, it allowed Joel to meet and talk with some of the top high school swimmers and coaches in the midwest. This allowed him to learn and develop his coaching philosophy today. Lauritzen also has a BS degree in Bible Theology and Youth Ministry from Great Lakes Christian College and a MA in Leadership Studies from Lincoln Christian University and Seminary. Joel is also an accomplished USA Swimming official having reached the N3 National Level in Officiating and also officiates all different divisions of college swimming. Joel has been coaching with Terre Haute Torpedoes for about four years with the masters and age groups. Previously he also served on the board for four years with three years as board president. Joel has been happily married to Hailee for 17 years and has four kids who all swim (Nevaeh, Connor, Ty, and Nolan).
Coach Cristina has enjoyed the world of swimming ever since she joined THT in the Summer of 2000. She also swam with Indiana Swim Team (Bloomington, IN), Terre Haute South Vigo, and Terre Haute Masters. She assisted Torpedoes Lessons during her high school years and gained club coaching experience while attending Indiana State University. In 2016, Cristina earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Indiana State University. While connecting the dots among her life passions, she also pursued a certification (Autism Fitness Level I Certified Coach) to promote functional fitness to athletes of varying behavioral and physical needs. Cristina became the Head Coach of Boys Swimming at Terre Haute South during the 2019-2020 season and started teaching English at Terre Haute South during the 2020-2021 school year. She currently assists the Orange, Blue, and Senior groups.
Coach Madison hails from from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been swimming since she was 11. She is curently a member of the Indiana State University Women's Swimming and Diving team, and competes as a sprint freestyler. When she was in Milwaukee, Madison taught swim lessons for about 5 years at various places. She loves anything that has to deal with water! Coach Madison is a Human Resource Development major at ISU, and is minoring in business administration. She will be graduate in May of 2022 and will immediately begin working on her Masters in Human Resource Development. She has two dogs back home in Wisconsin - their names are Ahli and Nova. Coach Madison loves to travel, and has been to Croatia, France, and Jamaica. Hopefully, she will find time to travel more in the future.
Carmina comes to us from Jasper, IN and has been swimming competitively since the age of 6. Carmina is a member of the Indiana State Women’s swim & dive team as a sprint freestyler. She has served as a lifeguarded for 4 years and has taught swim lessons for 6 years. Carmina spent last summer working with kids full-time at a daycare. She is majoring in speech language pathology with a minor in Early Elementary Education. One day, Carmina hopes to work in schools as a speech language pathologist.
